Laying the Foundation in Fifth Grade Classrooms to Attract the Best and Brightest Students to the Construction Industry
Build UP!
is the first phase of the AGC's Construction Futures campaign, an initiative designed to enhance the image of the construction industry through coordinated educational and community services activities.
Build UP!
lessons and activities cover 25 hours of classroom instruction over a two to three week period. This turnkey toolbox curriculum is designed for up to 60 students and can be shared among classes.
Elementary - Program Goals
Nevada Chapter AGC Build Up! Toolbox Kit Goals:
Restore Professional Pride for the Construction Industry: Build Up! takes students on a journey inside the structures that make up their world. Students learn the basic principles of construction through hands-on activities.
Captivate Students' Imaginations with a Look into their Future: Build Up! reveals futuristic building challenges such as mile-high buildings and extra-long bridges. Children learn how science and math applies to the construction industry and are provided with information about exciting, rewarding construction careers.
Demonstrate How the Industry Contributes to Students' Quality of Life: Students experience how the work that takes place on a construction site by bringing them behind-the-scenes to look at their constructed world. Classroom projects also make students aware of the importance of safety first.
Provide a Better Understanding of the Construction Industry: Build Up! creates a receptive audience which includes futures builders, owners, architects, engineers and civic leaders needed to build the cities of tomorrow.

Build UP!
Toolbox Kits, which are sponsored by Nevada AGC, have been placed at Agnes Risley, Alice Maxwell, Brown, E. M. Johnson, (Gerlach), Elmcrest, Greenbrae, Jerry Whitehead, Mt. Rose, Natchez, Sierra Vista, Spanish Springs and Sun Valley WCSD Elementary Schools, and at the High Desert Montessori and Sierra Nevada Academy.
