AGC Construction Student Externship
In 2026, to enhance our workforce development efforts, AGC launched the Construction Student Externship. This two-day immersive career exploration program introduces high school students to the diverse opportunities available in Nevada's construction industry. Through hands-on activities, industry presentations, jobsite tours, and mentorship from construction professionals, students gain firsthand exposure to careers in project management, engineering, safety, skilled trades, and more. The program helps inspire the next generation of construction professionals while strengthening the industry's future workforce through meaningful education and employer engagement.

Our inaugural AGC Construction Student Externship held on June 25-26, 2026 welcomed seven students from Reed High School, McQueen High School, Coral Academy, and Carson High School.

Quotes from students:
"My favorite part of the externship was talking to the professionals and them informing us on how different jobs connect to each other."

"I would describe my externship experience as wonderful, the knowledge I gained from it will help me further advance my career in the trades."

"I would tell another student this is a great opportunity to step your foot into construction. It offers valuable information and opportunities."

A special thank you to United Construction Company for hosting our first cohort and to all of the industry professionals and volunteers who helped make this experience a success.

Our next externship takes place July 30–31 with host contractor Q&D Construction. Interested students can apply here.

The "Respect the Cone: My family needs me home" campaign seeks the community's assistance in safeguarding construction workers. These dedicated individuals are working to build Nevada’s future and require our collective effort to ensure their safety in the work zone.

The campaign materials feature local roadway and highway construction workers and their families in an effort to encourage drivers in the community to remember the people who are behind the cones and to slow down and pay attention in work zones.
Thank you to our partners...

Construction Career Day is all about introducing northern Nevada's students to exciting, well-paying careers in the construction industry! This one-day event allows students to learn about education, training, and apprenticeship opportunities in construction while having fun with interactive activities and displays. AGC and the Building & Construction Trades Council of Northern Nevada (BCTNN) continue their partnership with Washoe County School District’s Signature Academies and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to bring this one-of-a-kind event to life.

At the 9th Annual Lemelson Construction Career Day AGC members taught students various aspects of the construction industry through demonstrations, hands-on activities, and presentations.

The Academy’s curriculum focuses on project-based, hands-on, exploratory learning, with students spending at least 50 percent of their academic studies within STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

The AGC adopted Lemelson STEM Academy as its Partner in Education in the fall of 2016. It is a natural partnership as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are the skills necessary to successfully pursue any career in the construction industry from carpentry to project estimating to engineering and beyond.
Thank you to our sponsors...
